#Juneathon Day 12 : Still running

by

Hooray! Today marks a Juneathon PB.

This is the longest I’ve actually managed to stay in Juneathon!

5.22km in 42min, and I managed to avoid the rain, feels like victory!

EDIT : my laptop died so this might be a little weirdly formatted.

But yesterday I had a really great time running & playing “Race Car” with my son.

He just wanted to run & and race, and it was one of the first times I actually didn’t pull the “no mummy doesn’t want to play” card, and joined in. I almost wish I had Runkeeper on, I could swear it was a good few KM in the 30 min run about!

Why do we grow up and stop loving to run about like that?

#Juneathon Day 11: Run Angry

by

As I was stood in the porch, pressing start on Runkeeper & putting my headphones in, my husband started a conversation that ended up an argument for four minutes (& apparently 16 cal.)

His last words as I left were “well, enjoy your run” and with all credit to him, he said it nicely and meant every syllable.
However it made me grumble and silently bitch in my head all the way around & meant I had to stop in the local Tesco & buy noodles and cake, these are my comfort foods. (I don’t eat them together.

4.8km 34min

#Juneathon Day 4 : Zombie Cto5k

by

I’m in a grump, and didn’t want to run, but I forced myself out the door.

I did 2 things.
I promised myself I would buy cake if I did a whole 30 minutes or more.
I put on a Couch to 5k track, so I didn’t feel bad about only half running, or mostly walking.

I love the SixToStart Zombies Run game, but have only done 2 runs from the other app they have, a 5k training app from the guys at Abel Township.
Previously you had to follow the program, and could only get the next workout once you’d completed the 1st. An update recently unlocked all the training plan, so I skipped ahead to week 3, and did a little more running than the start. It’s good, it talks you through each run / walk interval & has some stretching included. I like it, an I escaped from Zombies safely.

4.2km in 38 min & an apple pie.

#Juneathon Day 3: contains actual running.

by

Today I had planned 2 gym classes straight after work.

Body Attack, another of the Les Mills classes, this time no weights, and me flailing about to music, but it burns about 500 cals in 45 min class, so I just do it & hope I don’t injure the fools who stand near me.

And Box Fit. A class that involves boxing & an instructor with a mean streak, but I really enjoy it, so I keep going back for more pain, and eventually I’ll be able to plank & do press ups in boxing gloves.

However this didn’t happen, because as I was eating tea with my husband, Spag Bol BTW, he dropped the news that he is working late shifts this week, so I’d need to pick our kids up instead of him.

So I got up and went “running” this morning.

It was actually more of a jog walk, I’m not a morning person.

It was a lovely morning.

3.12km in 31min, hardly record braking, but it’s still 30 min of activity, so I’ll not moan about it any more.

GymPact

by

gympact logoAh another internet thing to keep me motivated. But this one pays me $$$!

No seriously, I can earn money through the Gympact app. We’re not talking heaps of cash, just a dollar or so, about 80p ish, every week, but it’s more money than if I didn’t have a gympact set up!

So the premise is simple, I say I’ll go to the gym / go running / do some excersise  3 times a week.

gympact check in

I have my iPhone with me &

check into the gym through the app, do 30 or more of excersise, then check out.

It logs that I’ve done one of my workouts and all I have to do is the same again 2 more times.

What if I’m not going the gym? I love to run and hate the treadmill. You can also add Runkeeper to the app, so that when you’re home from your run, still has to be 30+ mins (

gympact workout complete

and there’s a mimimum speed // distance too) you load up the app, and then it says…

Yup, “HOLY BICEPS, BATMAN!” Seriously how could I not like an app that says that every time you work out?

I’ve had no problems, aside from having to switch notifications off,  as the 1st week I had it it told be several times at 3am I had completed a work out. When I first downloaded it, I thought I’d have to register my gym, as Preston is hardly a Gotham City, we’re 5% the size of Manchester! But the anticipated faff did not happen, I loaded up the check in screen & it told me where I was, and I just got on with the normal stuff I get up to in the gym.

The dead line is always Sunday evening, and if you fail to make the pact you set up, then you’re charged the amount you choose to put on the line, $5 per workout missed for me.

But wait, it’s 9pm Sunday & I still have one more workout to complete, and the gym is closed, it’s snowing & dark so I can’t run. No problem, there’s an activity tracker too.

gynpact home

So, this hypothetical Sunday, it wasn’t just a few weeks ago honest, I would suggest spending 30 minutes doing things like running up & down the stairs (also good in #Janathon), doing jumping jacks & situps, so that the orange bar goes above the dotted line for 30 minutes.

That logs as a workout & you can sleep safe, and a little exhausted, knowing that your lethargy did not cost you $5.

This app seriously motivated me to move my lazy backside that Sunday night… Hypothetically of course.

I’ll be honest, I’ve only earnt a couple of dollars so far. But it has bullied me into a routine, so much that I’ve upped my Gympact to 4 days a week. And honestly it’s the thought of paying out for missing a workout that makes me go out & do it than the cash coming in. But I figure that the money coming in is going to get spent, eventually, on something cool & I will have literally sweated my arse off for it.

It’s quite new, and as I mentioned earlier, not without a few bugs now & again, but the guys on the end of the support email are quick to respond & helpful too.

The only thing that seems lacking is some sort of comunity side to it, it’s just me against me, I can tweet what I’m doing & up load it to facebook, but that’s it. It would be good to have some sort of interaction with other users, or challenge people for your weeks pay out, or just for fun. But they are still new & I guess there could be lots of new things in the pipe line.

If this sounds up your street how about a $5 gift to get your Gympact started?

THIS LINK should get you to the site through my referral code

(I don’t know if I get anything from it, but you should defiantly get a $5 head start!)

Let me know how the referral goes if you use it! I look forwards to hearing how you’re going!
